About the Event

Our speaker for this session, Mary-Pat O'Malley,  is a registered speech and language therapist and lecturer with over 25 years of experience of working with families. She is passionate about supporting multilingual families where there are concerns about their child's speech and language development, using evidence-based strategies through her blog Talk Nua. You can find her blog at She has recently set up a Facebook group called Becoming Bilingual with multilingual speech & language Therapist Nadja Herkner. She is involved in a range of research projects aiming to improve speech and language therapy services for multilingual families.

Our panelist for this session is Nadja Herkner. She is a German speech and language therapist (University of COlogne) with a psychoanalytical approach. She has been working with multilingual families since 2010 and offers coaching, online language groups for children in their heritage languages and hosts seminars. Her languages are German, English, & Italian. She is mother to an 8 year old trilingual daughter and lives with her family in Milan. Together with Mary-Pat she has set up a Facebook group called Becoming Bilingual for supporting parents of multilingual children, in particular where there are concerns about speech and language development.
